What is Play Therapy?

Play Therapy gives children the opportunity to both express and heal themselves through play, their natural language. This style of therapy integrates modalities that is developmentally appropriate for children, showing to be one of the most effective forms of therapy for most childhood presentations. Play joins the right and left brain reaching a deeper level of emotional expression. Therefore, allowing children to communicate in ways that they would not be able to do with words. Play Therapy assists all types of families and children to achieve their full potential through play, connection and reflections.

As therapists we join children in their journey and provide a space that can achieve so much more than working through feelings. Play therapy is a space where children can:

- Learn the skills they need to manage their environment.

- Learn about their world

- Process trauma and lived experiences

- Increase self-esteem and build confidence

- Develop skills for self-regulation

- Work through fears, anxiety and sadness etc

- Build social skills and bonds

- Learn to Play

-Re-connect with parents and caregivers

What to expect from the sessions.

Play therapy is a therapeutic intervention aimed at children aged 2-12 years, as a way to help them communicate and work through thoughts and feelings.

The sessions will take place weekly or fortnightly and go for approximately 45-50 minutes.

Initially the therapist will conduct an intake where they will gather information about the child and their current situation.

Although we maintain regular communication, there will also be formal check in point. These will take place every 4-6 sessions depending on the intervention to discuss progress and goals.
